Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic Therapy is an approach which focuses on a client's individuality (rather than as part of a labelled category), embracing them, holistically, as a whole, without the idea that there is something 'wrong' with them, but rather than they are experiencing some difficulties and are looking to get back on track to becoming the person they wish to be. Whilst it considers an individual's childhood experiences, relationships and environments (past and present), it also believes that the person has the ability to grow and develop and the free will to choose their path in life.

Person-Centred

The Person-Centred approach is a non-directive approach to therapy based upon the theory that the client, rather than the therapist, is the expert of themselves and has the innate tendency to find their own strength to grow and thrive. This is facilitated by the therapist in an environment of empathy, absolute acceptance and authenticity. It is believe that the crux of therapeutic change lies, predominantly, within the relationship between counsellor and client.

Westside Therapy embraces these fundamental aspects of this model in its' work but also understands that no one approach fits all. To this end, it may integrate some aspects of other models of therapy in order to meet the individual needs of a client.  However, if you are specifically looking for Psychodynamic Therapy or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, you will need to refer yourself to an alternative service.  Talking Therapy with Westside Therapy requires engagement on behalf of the client.  We do not 'teach' or 'advise' clients about how to behave in new ways.  Through talking and building a relationship with the counsellor, clients will explore how best to move forward for themselves.

Counselling can help individuals living with a wide range of issues including:

Abuse (childhood/domestic), Addictions, Anxiety, Bereavement and Loss, Depression, Intrusive Thoughts, Relationship Matters, Low Self-Esteem, Stress, Work/Study-related Matters, LGBTQ+ matters (list is not exhaustive).
